YMCA Teen Center Ages 12-18
The Irving Family YMCA offers a fun and safe atmosphere for teens to be teens.  Teens can be a part of our Teen Advisory Council, Youth and Government Club, Fitness Club, or just come and hang out in our teen center! In addition to this, teens can also enjoy some of the planned events such as movie nights, mixers, or various sporting events.



 

SUMMER LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY: CIT (COUNSELOR.IN.TRAINING)
 
 
 WHAT IS A CIT?

Counselors In Training are Teens ages 14-17 that desire leadership training through shadowing our Day Camp counselors.

 

WHAT DO THEY DO?

Summer duties include: Teen camp service learning planning, Day Camp curriculum planning, & Camp counselor shadowing.

 

WHAT ARE THE HOURS?

Work days are 9a.m.-5p.m. CITs may come early or stay late to accommodate parent work schedule.  At the start of the summer CITs must submit a schedule of known summer plans listing days out for any academic, extracurricular, family, and/or personal reasons to be sure that there is always a CIT for each Day Camp group.  CITs  MUST be available for all required trainings: CPR/First AID, In-House Training (May 8th) , and CIT Training.

 

WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?

Earn service hours, explore career optiont, learn valuable life skils, receive a letter of recommendation upon exceptional completion of summer duties, & receive first dibs for spots in Teen Excursions!

 

Cost: $125 for the entire summer

 

To Apply: Teens must fill out a YMCA employment application and be interviewed.

EXCLUSIVE TO Irving ISD Middle Schools

Monday – Friday School Close to 6:30 pm
The Irving Family YMCA provides FREE transportation from: Crockett, Sam Houston Lamar, DeZavala, and Travis Middle Schools to the YMCA Monday-Friday from School Close - 6:30p.m. Our well trained staff promises a safe and enriching environment for your Irving ISD middle school teen that enhances their confidence, esteem, and enriches them academically. We celebrate our youth and offer a safe-haven where everyone is heard and appreciated.

Activities include: Weekly work-out sessions in our fitness center, healthy snack preparation, character development discussions and awards, occasional guest speakers, art, Friday theme days.

The Irving Family YMCA is proud to announce our new collaboration with North Hills Preparatory School to provide an innovative and enriching after school program. Parents of North Hills middle school teens can expect a program that enhances their teen's abilities and compliments the values and character deeply ingrained within the culture of all YMCA youth programming (Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, and Trustworthiness). We promise to provide teens with a fun and safe environment with positive role models that encourage positive views of self and healthy adolescent development.

Youth & Government


 

The goals of this program are to increase political awareness and instill the importance of social action through participation.  Areas where teens can participate include Legislative, Judicial, Executive Government Planners and Media. The program concludes with a District Conference at Southern Methodist University & a trip to the State Capitol in Austin, TX for State Conference where participants will get to network and compete with 500-1,000 other students from around the State. Please note that Jr. Youth and Government has one area, Legislative.

Teen Advisory Board

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD

 

The mission of the Irving YMCA Teen Advisory Board is to identify, educate, and develop future leaders who will motivate their peers and use their talents and creativity to generate innovative teen centered ideas for teens around the City of Irving.

 

This is Board of teens (middle school & high school aged) that represent their peers throughout the City of Irving. Home school students are strongly encouraged to apply. Possible roles on the board include: Teen Technology specialist, Community Service Committee, Y Street Team (Marketing etc.).

Future Leaders of Irving

The mission of Future Leaders of Irving (FLI) is to identify, educate, and develop our local youth to become future business and civic leaders.

Youth are chosen from all Irving ISD high schools to participate in our program. Each month youth are released from school to participate in learning sessions and field experiences with prominent leaders in the city of Irving

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE

We are proud to host Saturday Night Live brought to you by the Irving Family YMCA! Every Saturday night from 7-10p.m. Come out for karaoke, video games, bounce house, music, open gym, movies and MORE!

WHO: 6th -12th graders

WHAT: FREE karaoke, video games on the big screen, foosball, carpet ball, NEW people, bounce house, music, open gym, movies, snack bar open (must bring cash), and MORE.

WHEN: Saturday Nights from 7p.m.-10p.m.  (Call to confirm)
